The numbers of Canadians electing to leave their socialized (“free”) system to pay for healthcare services has risen exponentially. A recent study indicates a 40% increase since just 2015.
When you look at the cost of human life lost on the waiting lists, it’s evident that the Canadian Healthcare system comes at a very destructive cost.
Canadians aren’t leaving because they want to. They are leaving because the have to. They are saving their own lives because Canada’s waiting lists are pushing them into a very costly survival mode.
Our experience in assisting Canadians in their quest to gain timely healthcare excellence has yielded to main observations. It is now not uncommon for patients to have horror stories of not only their wait times and what enduring living a life in pain has caused them but they also report on horrific experiences while receiving healthcare in Canada. Recently, the daughter of a cancer patient reported that while her Mom was undergoing some tests in the hospital a blood test went wrong. By “going wrong”, they meant once the needle was extracted out of her mothers arm the vein continued to bleed producing a rather large puddle of blood on the floor. A nurse, simply walked over with a towel and used her foot to mop up what she could. That concluded the sterilization process……
Another gentleman, in tears, described how when he brought his wife in for a biopsy the doctor suggested that they didn’t follow the dietary orders correctly so he was going to reschedule the biopsy. They had already waited two long weeks. When they begged him to proceed his response was that if it was indeed as grim as what the other tests were suggesting, the biopsy was simply a waste of time…… In one sentence he stripped all hope from a 37 year old wife and mother.
As the numbers of Canadians seeking healthcare outside of Canada continue to grow (and they surely will), IHP remains committed to providing the guidance, resources and network of excellence to ensure the process exudes what our healthcare system is lacking ….. care.
