FAQ

1. I’ve always heard that going to the United States for health care is only for the affluent, is that true?

There are many myths concerning receiving health care abroad and price is certainly at the top of the list. Our partnerships with US providers are based on the criteria that superior service is offered across the board. To make health care accessible for everyone, we have developed a preferred discounted package for all IHP clients. Whether it be for a consultation, surgery, pain management or diagnostics, each procedure reflects discounts that range between 15 & 50%.

2. Can I talk to someone for free?

Most definitely. This is understandably a big step and comfort is important. You are always welcome to call, email or come into our office so that we may provide you with all the information you need.

3. How will I know I have been connected with the right doctor for my needs?

Choosing a specialist for the needs of our clients is not an arbitrary act. In addition to assisting you in obtaining your medical records we gather additional intake information that is then forwarded to our associates located within our affiliated hospitals. Your information is then reviewed in order to connect you with the specialist that is best suited for your needs.

4. What is a medical advisor?

A medical advisor is someone from IHP that takes in the entire scope of your medical concerns, in addition to all personal circumstances involved, and provides you with the information you need to make an informed decision regarding your health care.

5. What is the value of using IHP?

IHP does all of the legwork, the research and has a host of connections that are made available to you. These resources have taken great time and care to be established and continue to grow. It’s much liking moving into a fully furnished home rather than having to start from scratch on your own.

6. Will OHIP, or any other Federal or Provincial government, cover any costs?

There are certain criteria that needs to be satisfied for your care outside of the country to be covered. You are encouraged to discuss this with your family doctor or specialist so they may complete the necessary paperwork and submit it on your behalf. Generally diagnostics and consultations are not covered.

7. I’m worried that my family doctor will be upset with me, is their anything I can do to not make this so stressful?

We, as Canadians, have been acculturated to not participating in the decision making process when it comes to our own health care. There has always been a sense of pride and confidence that we had one of the best operating health care systems in the world and all we needed was our health card to pave our way to “Dr. Right.” Our relationships with our family doctors have always been founded on great trust and belief that the system would never fail us. Even when we read about the colossal wait times for care it is not until it becomes a personal issue, whether it is ourselves or someone close to us, that we become truly aware of the decay in our system. Upon this realization there is a simultaneous desperation that builds and confidence in your family doctor dwindles. The truth is, your family doctor is doing their absolute best for you within the confines of the health care systems as it exists today. If this is not enough for you, then you must empower yourself to take matters into your own hands. We will endeavour to keep your family doctor involved by forwarding him test results and reports generated by US health care. It has been our experience to meet some wonderful Canadian doctors that not only have been supportive of their patients exploring care outside of Canada but it’s been our pleasure to actually be the conduit between the Canadian and US physicians. Canadian physicians report welcoming information and education that improves their knowledge in addition to highly regarding the data on outcomes.

8. What is my first step in getting the ball rolling?

Simply contact us. While many clients may have similar health care concerns, everyone has different circumstances in their lives. We will access where you are and what needs to happen next in order to get you the health care you need….without the wait.

9. What about aftercare should I have a surgery?

All aftercare procedures, including physiotherapy, rehabilitation, home care visits, and post surgery check-ups are arranged before the actual surgery takes place. This way you will have no worries about loose ends and can see the journey before it even begins.
